As a part of the CHAT program, students were required to participate in a camp to increase their awareness of Hospitality and the Tourism industry. CHAT students participated on a food tour of the Clare Valley and surrounding regions.

Their tour began in Wallaroo, where students visited local cafes, restaurants and had a tour of Bond Store Distillery and Micro Brewery. Students gained knowledge on the attributes required to work in the Hospitality industry and what makes the Bond Store unique to the region. The student’s next stop was in Moonta, where they toured the Moonta Mines by railway and visited the museum to learn about the history of the Copper Triangle.
From there students ventured to Clare where they visited the Watervale Hotel, Paulett Wines and Bush DeVine Café, Mintaro Maze and Martindale Hall.
At the Watervale Hotel, students engaged in a tour of the hotel and Penobscot Farm, which supplies the hotel’s restaurant with seasonal produce. They learnt how sustainability can be implemented into the Hospitality Industry to reduce food waste.
Paulett Wines provided the opportunity for students to participate in their garden tour, which celebrated Indigenous Australian bush food. This enabled the students to discuss how these ingredients can be incorporated into a restaurant menu. Students were provided with a 3 course lunch using ingredients they picked from the garden, which they thoroughly enjoye
